I’m a wannabe minimalist as I have mentioned before. Full disclosure. I don’t actually own a diaper bag. Even after two babies, I still don’t see the need for one. I use one of my designer purses and all my everyday diaper bag essentials fit perfectly into it.

Is it absolutely crazy that I use my Louis Vuitton Evora purse as my “diaper bag”? Perhaps. But I already own it, and I already used it every single day for work. So when I had my first baby, I didn’t feel the need to buy an extra bag. The way I saw it, it would be completely impractical to purchase another bag that I would only use for a few years.
This thing is a WORKHORSE!
When it comes to my handbags, I believe in an investment in the highest quality bag you can afford/justify. My first designer bag has held up beautifully for over 12 years. And I am NOT gentle with my purses! With high-quality purses, they wear beautifully and just look more gorgeous over time. I never regret spending the money on one, even though the initial investment might smart a bit.
Now that we’ve gotten my opinion about that out of the way, here is what I carry in my “diaper bag”.
Items for Baby
- Sophie la Girafe chew toy: both my babies loved this chew toy!
- Aden & Anais swaddle blanket: these serve multi-purpose for me. From swaddle, to nursing cover, to car blanket, to burp cloth.
- Thirsties OS Pocket Diapers: one for every 2 hours we expect to be out
- water wipes in OXO Tot Wipes Case
- wet bag: for soiled diapers and clothes
- change of clothes: in case of a blow out or leak
- Kushies changing pad: folds up nice and small

Items for Me
- my beloved Clemence wallet
- key fob for my car
- sunglasses in case
- pen and notebook: because I’m always scribbling
- tube of hand moisturizer: it’s dry AF here in Alberta!
- MAC Angel lipstick: my everyday lip colour
Items for the Toddler
Now that I’m toting around two kids, you would think that I would need additional items to carry in my bag. Nope! As soon as Lincoln could walk, I purchased a cute little backpack for him to take around and it holds:
- multiple pairs of underwear: because I can always count on him having at least one accident a day
- change of pants: because same reason as above
- Camelbak Eddy kids’ water bottle: I love that it’s a soft straw bottle, and comes in lots of adorable print options
- a tupperware or ziploc sandwich bag of snacks: usually cheddar Goldfish crackers or veggie straws
- one or two toys that Lincoln has chosen for the day

Outfit Details
I just picked up these great cargo pants from H&M. They are so easy to throw on and are casual without being frumpy. I especially love that they are high-waisted! That’s a bonus for any mom, with all the bending up and down we have to do.
I’ve mentioned on my Instagram that I usually find a pair of high heels much more comfortable than flats. I LOVE these nude high heel sandals and they are my go-to. They are so comfortable that I was even able to walk around downtown in them right up to the end of my first pregnancy.
The lace top I’m wearing was picked up from Zara a couple years ago, but I’ve linked some similar picks below.

I’m pretty minimalist with what I carry. And having two kids 2 and under has not changed that!
What are other mamas toting around in their diaper bags? Am I missing any everyday diaper bag essentials that are a must have for you? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

What a great idea to repurpose a bag that you already have to use as a diaper bag! And a nice looking bag at that!
Thanks! I always feel like baby stuff is marketed as a complete necessity for moms when lots of it really isn’t! There’s no reason to buy another bag when I’m sure most women have an existing bag that would work perfectly.
I’m not a mom but this looks so practical! I’ll have to share with my mom friends. Also love your pants and heels!
Yes please spread the word! A movement needs to be started to cancel diaper bags! LOL
I don’t have kids but I’d probably do the same as you and keep just one bag
It’s definitely the way to go! I personally don’t like having a lot of baby stuff, and I’m all about long-term use of everything I own.
I haven’t needed to carry a diaper bag for years, but when I did it was always packed with things I didn’t need.
Yes! I think diaper bags are generally so big and bulky and because of that, maybe we don’t think critically about what we ACTUALLY need to pack for a day out.
What a chic looking diaper bag I love when the luxury brands make great diaper bags I had a COACH one many, many, years ago.
I do think some of the luxury designer diaper bags are cute! Coach does have a nice one, as does Burberry and Gucci.
What a glam diaper bag! I love it!
🙂 Thank you. This bag is the perfect size for the absolute necessities I need to bring for a day out. And after babies are grown and I don’t need to have a dedicated diaper bag, I can use it again as my everyday purse! I love this bag.
