Today’s closet confidence challenge was to build a wearable version of a look I find on Pinterest. My sister had the family over for brunch today and I thought it the perfect opportunity to wear the outfit I have been planning for this challenge.
The Inspiration
Through hours of browsing, I came across Elie Saab’s Fall/Winter 2016 Haute Couture collection and felt completely inspired!
You may already notice that my wardrobe isn’t really that feminine in terms of ruffles, chiffon and flowy silhouettes. I was drawn to this Elie Saab collection for its femininity with the sheer organza fabrics, elegant cuts and strategically placed fabric flowers.
Executing It
My “wearable version” of this look is rather simple.
I purchased this sweater at a darling boutique shop in Toronto’s fashion district while there last winter with the husband to catch a Raptor’s basketball game. Remember how I don’t like itchy and scratchy fabrics? Well, this is the reason I don’t wear this sweater often. It’s a knit with gold metallic yarn weaved in.
Even with the uncomfortable material, I can see instantly why I bought this sweater in the first place. I love the large floral pattern, which is printed on top of a sheer organza material layered over the knit. The fact that it is a simple pullover sweater is great! I can be casual but have some fun and girlishness injected into my outfit.
By the way, I found these perfect condition Joe’s Jeans pumps at my local Value Village Thrift Store for $12! Can you believe it!?
Next Time
Looking at the photos, here are the other things I would have done to better embody the Elie Saab Haute Couture FW16 collection in my outfit:
- added a belt to create a more defined silhouette
- a floppy hat. I desperately tried to locate my blue felt Coach floppy hat because I thought that would be the perfect piece to complete this look. However, after searching high and low, I gave up looking. I am hoping I did not consign it!
